Cylon base from Revell
Revell launched the Cylon Base in 1997. The model is on a scale of 1: 8500 and is actually easy to build with its 29 parts.
Inventory of parts, elaboration of the turning function and lighting.
The distance between the sections was not enough in my opinion and therefore a spacer ring was built that will come between the two sections.
First test whether it is really well centered. The height also had to be adjusted.
Continue with the painting of individual sections. Here are the two middle parts.
The two parts had to be masked off more to apply the light gray.
Now it's time to turn to the lighting. That means cutting light guides and supplying them with LEDs.
A piece of Ureol is milled out as a stand to accommodate a slip ring and a motor with 1 rmp.
It should be in the middle and the gears have to fit exactly.
It fits very well and runs perfectly. The base is powered by the slip ring and can rotate at the same time.
The holes are drilled on the two lower parts and the light guides with a diameter of 0.25 millimeters are glued in.
All light guides are also drawn on the upper halves and bundled with shrink tubing. Now the LEDs can be attached to it.
The small "bridges" on the approach lanes should also get a little light.
Then the bundled light guides were "blow-dried" in the respective direction ...
... to be guided through a small hole inside the model.
Here these were then connected to the warm white LEDs.
The small Cylonen Raider and the Viper MKI are not in scale, but they will certainly spice up the model later.
The preparation for the final painting is already done.
